Undrafted Rookie
It's an excellent year for NJ... They still have a chance to nab top prospect OT Anthony Davis... While Davis was an early Miami lean, he has since eased off of that, now putting Ohio State on top, with Rutgers and USC close behind... With in state pressure and a BCS bowl, it's not out of the question to see him sign with Rutgers...
Their biggest get in the Schiano era so far is LB Manny Abreu... He is a stud, simple as that... His closing speed is as good as it gets and he is as long as anyone in this class... He'll be starting by his sophomore year and can end up becoming the best LB in this class when it's all said and done... OT Desmond Stapleton is a nice project... He's got decent upside and may have flown under the radar... DE Al-Ghaffar Lane is a Schiano type player with a nice motor and really good quickness off the ball... They need to put the pressure on NY OL John Elliot and FL RB Antwain Easterling...
However, quite a few of the top prospects this year have already verballed elsewhere... 3 of the top 5 prospets in the state already verballed to Notre Dame in TE Mike Ragone, DE Justin Trattou, and WR Duval Kamara... All three are top 100 players who I think will end up becoming very nice players, especially Duval... He reminds me alot of former NJ prospect and current SC star Dwayne Jarrett... They also lost on ATH Tony Logan, an undersized playmaker who could have been a major asset at the next level... Rutgers missed on QB Matt Simms... He could have become a very nice QB at Rutgers, and instead goes to Louisville... He's nowhere near the prospect of his brother or father, but a nice one nevertheless...
They need to hope to continue the momentum for next year's class... Will Hill (no relation) has been the best player in the state for over a year... I'm not sure where he'll end up, but I can guarantee you that he's going to be a top 10 player next year nationally... QB Stephen Shimko also looks pretty good on film right now... I'm not sure where he'll be ranked but with a weak QB crop he could emerge as a top player...
