Ex-Elizabeth star Khaseem Greene commits to Rutgers
'Six or seven years ago, Khaseem Greene said, he would have never considered playing football at Rutgers. "When I was growing up it was a laughingstock," he said. Clearly times have changed, with the former Elizabeth High School star, a 6-1, 195-pound safety, becoming the 16th player to commit to the Scarlet Knights for next season.
Greene, a two-year starter and captain his senior year at Elizabeth High, spent last year at Avon Old Farms, a prep school in Connecticut.
He made his official visit to Rutgers last weekend and committed then.
"They go to bowl games every year now. Coach (Greg) Schiano has turned things around completely there," said Greene. "It's a chance to play for a great program close to home, where your family and friends can see you."
Greene is the third defensive back in the current class to commit, joining David Rowe and Brandon Jones.
National letter of intent signing day is a week from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, contrary to internet speculation, wide receiver Tim Brown is not transferring to Miami to be closer to home, Schiano said.
